Project moves abroad

The project with a large semiconductor manufacturer in the USA has moved abroad during the summer to be managed from a location close to the customer. A local project manager has been brought in on a consulting basis to give the project a local connection and to take advantage of all the knowledge available locally.

– We have chosen to move the project to the US to increase quality and to speed it up. There is an entire network, an ecosystem of sorts, in the customer’s immediate area which has been developed in a way to fully support the customer. Luckily, we have managed to recruit a central person within this network as an advisor, says CEO Andreas Törnblom.

The project currently has around 20 subcontractors in everything ranging from component delivery, design, automation, construction, and testing. Only subcontractors who are already approved and have a close relationship with the customer are hired to create an installation where the level of ambition is well balanced, and the solutions meet the customer’s standards throughout.

– Having a project manager in the same time zone as the customer and subcontractors makes the work considerably more efficient and frees up a lot of time as questions can be dealt with immediately and don’t have to wait until the next day. The disadvantage is that the project is somewhat further away from our core business here in Sweden, but we overcome that hurdle by having frequent meetings and many short milestones, says Andreas.
